Avery & Her Brothers {new life} 27

Being asked to take Avery’s newborn pictures was extra special since in the past I’d been able to take both her brother’s very first portraits. The boys enthusiastically greeted me, and little Mason (the oldest) was excited to show off his baby to me. The morning ended up being a fun combination of getting my baby fix and playing around with these little guys. And it sure doesn’t hurt my photos that this family produces some seriously cute kids (with eyelashes to envy!).

Congrats, B family, on adding some pink to all that blue…

Schuyler {new life} 10

Last week I was able to spend some time with beautiful baby Schuyler. After our shoot, I asked her if she would please host a newborn clinic on how to be the perfect model. Seriously. This little girl was a dream: super snoozy and then waking up at the end to give happy looks to my camera. It didn’t hurt that her mom was sweet, laid-back, and such a help during the shoot! Schuyler’s mom is also handy with the crochet hooks; and since she loves all things beach, she made a little mermaid sack that you can see we had some fun using.

So let out all your oohs and aahs at some photos of this adorable little addition to our world.

Emmy {newborn} 15

I showed up at Emmy’s house to find a bright-eyed, tiny beauty awaiting me. While I think all babies are cute, Emmy was an especially adorable new person. She already was showing such a gentle personality. Emmy’s mom was a champ and worked so hard to get her girlie to sleep and to help me with the photography. Finally we got some pictures with her and her big brother Sam whom Emmy already seemed to adore. When I told him that I had three little sisters, he responded in an emphatic little voice, “Well, this is my first time!”

Ally {newborn} 31

Meet Miss Ally. I hung out with her and her momma on an afternoon this weekend capturing Ally in all her 3 week old glory. Ally was as opinionated as she is cute, and her mom wins “Most Helpful Mom EVER at a Photo Shoot” award. Seriously. She worked side by side with me like a champ. Only she and I will ever know all the crazy work that went into some of these shots, but I hope she’d agree that in the end it all paid off.

Faith {newborn} 20

If you already have a red headed little girl and a blonde little girl, isn’t adding a brunette daughter to the family the most logical thing to do?! This sweet little family did just that with baby Faith’s arrival. And with their oldest being a chatty, gregarious child who was very anxious to get in front of the camera and their second being a shy, quiet one who hid in her room coloring, I’m sure mom and dad are very curious to see what this third personality will hold.

A big congratulations, Nathan and Tiffany, on a third beautiful daughter!

Owen 8

One of the most rewarding things I’ve gotten to do since beginning my photography business nearly 4 years ago has been taking my nephews and neice’s newborn portraits. There’s a lot of love behind each of their first pictures. With all the newborns I’ve been doing lately you can imagine how excited I’ve been about doing my newest nephew’s photos. However, I couldn’t have anticipated his arrival being so completely different than any of us had imagined.

My sister had planned her second home birth, but a few days before her due date she was sent for an urgent c-section when her son stopped moving in utero. Owen made his rather dramatic arrival and spent the next few hours fighting for his little life. Unbeknownst to us, he had been suffering from a rare alloimmune disorder. His home was the NICU for the first two weeks of his life. I knew the chance for capturing a baby’s “brand new stage” was such a small window, but at that point I was just so grateful that he was there and getting better. Still, I pounced on the opportunity to get some pictures done the day after he arrived home.  After enduring blood transfusions, tubes all over his little body, and all the other joys of hospital, he was a champ through his photo shoot.

I know I have “auntie goggles” on when I look at these, but I just don’t see how he could possibly be any cuter!

Porter {newborn} 37

Porter’s session was special since just 2 years ago, I took his big brother’s newborn portraits. This dark-haired little man had some of the most beautiful eyelashes I’ve ever seen on a baby. Don’t be fooled by some of the sleepy looking pictures I snagged; at only 4 days old, Porter found modeling very exciting and was awake for nearly the entire three hours! His grandma and I laughed at what a little wiggle worm he was; but he was also such a sweet, quiet baby.

Leave a comment letting Porter’s mom and dad know how beautiful he is because with 25 comments in the next 5 days they will get a free 5×7!

Keira {newborn} 10

I believe it was early in my last pregnancy. I was reading another photographer’s blog and saw a newborn that she had photographed in a jar of jellybeans. I don’t know why it grabbed me like it did, maybe it was the rainbow of colors or the fact that it made me smile or maybe just the pregnancy hormones. But from then on, I dreamed in jellybeans. My poor dear child inside of me had no idea that she was being born to a photographer. And one crazy enough to stick her in a jar full of candy.

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten the response that I did after that photo was done and posted. The #1 question being: ”Did you photoshop her in that jar?”  Nope. She was really in there. Later we even found jellybeans that had slipped into her diaper. But the ultimate response came a few months later in the form of a request from a mom who was very newly pregnant. Could I do that with her baby “please, please?” the email begged. I think the double please was what got me. It reminded me of the desperation I feel when in need of a piece of dark chocolate. So if this woman needed the “jellybean shot” as bad as I need dark chocolate, I decided to set aside my nervousness at doing this to someone else’s baby.

Little Miss Keira was born this month and I toted my stuff off to her house. She was a wonderful snoozer and slept right through the experience. When dad arrived home part way through the shoot and mom announced the “jellybean shot” had worked, you could almost see the relief on his face. “Oh, good because we’ve been talking about this since October!”

So I’m thrilled to present Keira in all her Candy Queen glory and a sampling of some of my other favorite shots. Leave her mom and dad a comment in the next 5 days since 25 comments will earn them a free 5×7.

Elliana {newborn} 42

Wednesday I was invited to Elliana’s house to “play”. Little Elliana was downright adorable, and her mom and dad made things even more enjoyable by being some of the most easy-going first-time parents I’ve met. So much fun!

Thanks, CJ and Abby (and Grandma!) for being so helpful with the newborn shoot. (CJ is the strong arm behind the “hanging baby” photo.) Your daughter is so blessed to have you as her parents!

Alright, peeps, leave some blog love. As usual 25 comments in 5 days will earn these parents a free 5×7.

Veronica {newborn} 8

On Saturday I was in full photographer mode. In my mind I had a checklist of all my props and photo ideas for the newborn shoot I was about to do. I finished setting up and went to pick my little model up from her cradle. Suddenly, she let out that beautiful noise of a newborn cry and all my mental checklists melted away as I was flooded with auntie feelings. I was overwhelmed by the fact that I was about to have the joy of photographing my first niece.

So, more as an aunt than a photographer, I’m proud to show off my BEAUTIFUL new niece Veronica. I already love you so much, girlie!
