I’ve known Dave and Hannah for a few years now. So it was a treat to spend some time with them, their two adorable children, and my camera one morning recently. Dave is bit of a goof with a great sense of humor. The reason for the bugs trying to bite him during our shoot? They must love a Chinese buffet, he tells me. And their son, who we can just refer to as mini-Dave, has the same fun-loving spirit. Hannah is a quiet, caring beauty and their daughter strolled through our shoot like a gentle, sweetheart looking so much like her mommy.

Trevor & Keira {growing} 10

Another little girl whom I have gotten to follow with my camera during the first year of her life, had her one year old session. Keira, who sat like a doll in a pumpkin the last time I saw her, was joined by her big brother Trevor along with their parents. We did the photos on the grounds of a historic hidden gem- The Collingwood Library.

Zack & Olivia {growing} 32

I loved the easy spirit of this shoot. Part of it was due to the fact that this was the fourth time I’ve been able to do portraits for this family and most of it was because of how good-natured these two cuties were. We met a wildlife preserve blooming with the beauty of spring. As we made our way to the marshland area, Zack wanted to know what might live there. When he heard that there could be frogs, that was the end of thinking of anything else. We tried to explain that it might be too chilly for frogs; but he was convinced with all his three-year-old enthusiasm, that we would find one. In the end, Zack’s childlike faith won out as Mr. Frog did indeed make an appearance.

New Year’s Resolution 2

I take pictures.

I take pictures of kids.

Lots of kids.

However, one of my New Year’s resolutions is the following: take more pictures of kids.

Confused? It might be because I omitted one very important pronoun in that sentence: my.

Let’s try that again: take more pictures of my kids.

You see, my favorite four kids in the universe get shamefully neglected in this area. Mommy goes and shoots for a number hours on a Saturday, Mommy comes back exhausted, Mommy puts camera in closet, camera stays in closet. If we go on a family outing, I want to concentrate on the kids and not work which is why the camera still stays in the closet.

But when I looked over my pictures for 2011, I couldn’t help but feel that something was out of balance. I have thousands of photos of other people’s kids and just a handful of my own. Thus the resolution.

The camera has found it’s way out of the closet and onto a perch on my bookshelf. When my son was engrossed in Lego world, I grabbed the camera. When baby was reading her own little Picture Bible, camera. You get the point.

Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be posting some photos of my kids. Today I’ll start with some photos snapped this week of my baby girl. Enjoy!

W Family {love} 3

After having to re-schedule because of snow(!) in October(!) in Virginia(!), I met up with the W family on a beautiful and far warmer afternoon this week. Mom and Dad were friendly and great to work with, but my favorite part was hanging out with the two little guys that reminded me of my sons just a few years back. There was a lot of tickling, sprinting, car noises, and all the wonderful things that come with little boys. And as a big added bonus, they cooperated like champs!
